An investment exceeding $1.5 million has been committed to 27 ANZAC memorial and infrastructure projects across the state. This funding effort is part of the third round of the Queensland Remembers Grants Program, which supports projects from Brisbane to Outback Queensland and the Torres Strait.
Key Projects and Funding
New Farm Renovations: $250,000 has been dedicated to Australian War Widows Queensland to upgrade 11 affordable home units for war widows at Marina Court, providing them with improved housing facilities.
Maryborough Military Aviation Museum: An allocation of $50,000 will help construct a building for the military aviation museum at Maryborough Airport.
Innisfail RSL Sub-branch: A grant of $124,000 has been approved for a new roof at the Innisfail RSL Sub-branch, enhancing the structural integrity and longevity of the building.
Cunnamulla War Memorial Fountain: This project, which received $45,000 in funding, will install commemorative plaques and significantly upgrade the war memorial fountain.
Townsville’s Beacon of Honour: An investment of $25,000 will create a Beacon of Honour in Anzac Park, Townsville, to commemorate the service of Australian veterans.
Interactive Walk on Thursday Island: A $35,000 grant will fund the creation of a 1.5-kilometre interactive walk in honor of the nation’s first World War Two All-Indigenous Australian Army unit
The Honourable Leeanne Enoch, Minister for Communities and the Arts, emphasized the program's role in remembering and honoring veterans' sacrifices.
"Queensland is home to more Australian Defence Force veterans than any other state, and it is our duty to ensure that their contributions are not forgotten," stated Minister Enoch.
Assistant Minister and Member for Stafford, Jimmy Sullivan, also highlighted the personal significance of these projects, recalling his family's tradition of honoring their war veteran ancestors on ANZAC Day.
